Is Your Workstation Draining Your Physical Energy?

Is Your Workstation Draining Your Physical Energy?

Is Your Workstation Draining Your Physical Energy?

Most of us feel drained at work; we think it might be because of a lack of sleep or stress. But sometimes it is the sitting habits and workplace nutrition that drain most of us. It is very important to correct it so that our performance at work remains excellent. You just have to consciously correct your workplace habits and nutrition so that you don’t feel drained at the end of the day.

  • Micro-workouts whenever possible; sitting for prolonged hours in one posture often leads to back strains as well as eye strain. A 2min stretch every 2 hours might help prevent strain and back pain.

  • Sometimes some of us are busy with back-to-back meetings, so in this case it is good to walk while on a phone call.

  • Screen fatigue is also common; constantly looking at a screen causes eye strain, so to ease the eye strain and improve eyesight, it is best to do some eye exercises. Simple eye exercises can help improve digital eye strain, relax tight eye muscles, and improve focus co-ordination.

  • The 3 pm slump forces some of us to take a power nap, but at work it is impossible, so the remedy to this is that you don’t eat high carbohydrate rich meal, as a high-carb meal makes sleep kick in. Focus on adding a good amount of protein to your lunch; this will ensure that you stay alert even post-lunch. (Eg - adding 1 small bowl of stir-fry paneer with your roti sabzi)

  • Movement after a meal, especially after lunch, is very important. A small 5-10 min walk after lunch will make sure the blood sugar does not spike.

  • And the last is hydration; hydration is most neglected at the workplace. Make sure that your body is properly hydrated even if you don’t feel thirsty; fill your water bottle and keep it in front of your work desk. This will make sure hydration is not neglected.

Follow these practical habits and, at the end of the day, feel less drained and enjoy the rest of the day with your family and friends with more energy.
