Sightseeing without the slump : How to stay energised all day

Sightseeing without the slump : How to stay energised all day

You started the day with to explore the ancient quarters, tour the museums, and to gaze at the sights. Next thing you know, it is 2 in the afternoon. Your legs feel numb, your eyelids droop, and the fascinating sights you saw begin to blend together into a kaleidoscope of tired confusion.

Exhaustion while touring and sight-seeing is no fun.

It is perfectly normal and even expected as long hours of walking, irregular meals, unfamiliar climate, and constant stimulus drains your energy. The good news is that it is easy to avoid this by practicing a few simple hacks.

Here are some tips to ensure that you have plenty of energy to last from breakfast till dinner during your adventure.

All-Day Sightseeing Strategy

To have consistent energy throughout your day you must focus on proper breakfast, active recovery, light meals,as well as snacks and electrolytes.

1. Start your day properly with good breakfast:

Swap refined carbs for protein-rich foods plus complex carbs and healthy fats like this: Idli/Dosa with sambhar, chutney, and sprout salad or an egg and whole grain toast or omelet with avocado toast or yogurt with nuts and seeds and a side of fruits. This will give you sustained release of amino acids and fatty acids for the next 4-5 hours to keep you satiated and energized.

2. Carry electrolytes and not plain water:

Drinking water while sweating leads to loss of sodium and potassium from your body, which further dehydrates you. Carry a refillable water bottle and sip on it throughout the day. If you are in a tropical climate and sweating a lot, add an electrolyte powder to your water or coconut water to your bottle. This will keep your body from going into the vicious cycle of dehydration and fatigue.

3. Smart snacking between meals:

Healthy, pocket-friendly, and high-energy snacks with you like raw almonds, walnuts, mixed seeds, banana, dried fruits, and protein bars. Eat a small handful every 2-3 hours to avoid low blood sugar, which makes you feel moody and tired. Yes, you can have coffee or tea, but do not overdo it, and do not have it after 4 pm.

4. Take breaks to sit and rest before you feel exhausted:

Sit and have a cup of tea or coffee or snack after every 90 minutes or so. Strategic sitting breaks will keep your body from shutting down completely and save you from the deep fatigue that makes you miss out on the rest of the day’s adventure.

5. Prioritize sleep:

Go to bed early, avoid blue screens before bedtime, and get good rest. This will ensure that you wake up refreshed and ready to tackle the day. Lack of sleep leads to fatigue, which affects your mood and judgment.

Sightseeing fatigue is not a bad thing. But it is expected that you start to feel tired by the end of a long day spent walking around and exploring. Fatigue is inevitable if you spend too much time walking, sweating, and not enough time rehydrating and recovering. With these simple but powerful strategies
